Congress established the Interagency Council on Homelessness in 1987 with the passage of the Stewart B. McKinney Homeless Assistance Act. The Council is responsible for providing federal leadership for activities to assist homeless families and individuals.

The Homelessness Resource Exchange is a one-stop shop for information and resources for providers who are assisting persons who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.


The Homelessness Resource Center is an interactive community of providers, consumers, policymakers, researchers, and public agencies at federal, state and local levels. The community shares state-of-the-art knowledge and promising practices to prevent and end homelessness.

The National Alliance to End Homelessness is a non-partisan organization, committed to preventing and ending homelessness in the United States. The Alliance analyzes policy and develops pragmatic, cost-effective policy solutions. It works collaboratively with the public, private and non-profit sectors to build state and local capacity, leading to stronger programs and policies that help communities achieve their goal of ending homelessness. The Alliance provides data and research to policymakers and elected officials in order to inform policy debates and educate the public and opinion leaders nationwide.


The National Coalotion for the Homeless, founded in 1982, is a national network of people who are currently experiencing or who have experienced homelessness, activists and advocates, community-based and faith-based service providers, and others committed to a single mission: to end homelessness.
